The Samsung Galaxy S Advance is a mid-range Android smartphone that got released in January, 2012. Its latest Android version is 4.1.2 and if you are wondering how to root it, this post will show you how.


In this post we will be using a very easy method by Shaaan from xda-developers forums which requires you to flash a root package via recovery mode. No kernel changing required or anything of that sort.

Pre-requisites

  • You must have the Samsung USB drivers installed on your computer in order to establish a connection.
  • You must enable USB Debugging on your phone which can be found in Developer options.
  • Download the root package to your phone's sdcard - Click here.
  • Download the CWM Recovery package to your phone's sdcard - Click here.
  • Be sure to have a backup of your important data as anything could happen!

Rooting Galaxy S Advance I9070

  1. Once you have downloaded the rooting package to your phone's sdcard, switch it off.
  2. Begin to hold the Volume up + Home + Power buttons together to boot into Recovery mode.
  3. Once in recovery mode, select install update from external storage.
  4. Locate and choose the root.zip file.
  5. After the process is complete, select reboot system now.
To ensure you have rooted 100%, it is recommended that you download the app called Root Checker from the Google Play store and run the test which takes only a second.

Installing CWM Recovery (temporary) on Galaxy S Advance I9070

  1. Once you have downloaded the cwm recovery package (named update.zip) to your phone's sdcard, switch off the phone.
  2. Begin to hold the Volume up + Home + Power buttons together to boot into Recovery mode.
  3. Once in recovery mode, select install update from external storage.
  4. Locate and choose the update.zip file.
  5. You should now be in CWM Recovery, enjoy!
