How to Root Motorola Moto G (3rd Gen)

One of the most popular budget phones out there, the Motorola Moto G (3rd Gen) is 
one of the smoothest phones you can get for the money. With its decent processor, camera, no bloatware (just pure Android for the most 
part) and water-resistance body for a price tag under $200.<br />
<br />
Rooting your Moto G will allow you to flash custom ROMs, modifications/themes, overclocking the processor, and many more. If you are looking for a way to root your phone, read along and follow the quick and basic instructions found in this post.<br />
<br />
This tutorial consists of 3 parts: Unlocking the bootloader, installing a custom recovery, and finally flashing SuperSU. <br />
<br />

<span style="font-size: x-large;">Keep in mind</span></h2>
<ul>
<li>This could void your device's warranty. Droid-Tips will not be responsible for any damages you may cause to your device after following this tutorial.</li>
<li>This procedure will install a custom recovery to your phone</li>
<li>This requires unlocking your bootloader which will erase all your stored data. Be sure to make backups of your important files.</li>
<li>Make sure that your Moto G's battery is well charged</li>

<span style="font-size: x-large;">Part I. Unlocking the Bootloader on Moto G</span></h2>
1. Unzip the files from Fastboot over to your Desktop.<br />
2. On your phone head to <b>Settings</b> -> <b>About phone</b> and tap on <b>Build number</b> 7-8 times until it says you are a developer.<br />
3. Now go back to your <b>Settings</b> and just above <b>About phone</b> you should see <b>Developer options</b>.<br />
4. Head to <b>Developer options</b> and turn on <b>USB Debugging</b>.<br />
5. Plug in your device to your computer using your USB cable.<br />
6. Launch a Command Prompt window on your PC. You can do that by holding Shift and right-clicking anywhere on the fastboot folder and select "<b>Open command window here</b>".<br />
7. Type in the following command there and press Enter:<br />

adb reboot bootloader</blockquote>
8. Your device should now reboot into bootloader mode.<br />
9. Once your device boots into bootloader mode, type in the following command on your PC:<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
fastboot oem get_unlock_data</blockquote>
10. Copy the string of text that appears on your screen removing any space of it.<br />
11. Head over to the <a href="https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-b" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Motorola Bootloader website</a> and log in. If you do not have an account you may create a new one.<br />
12. Follow the bootloader unlocking procedure on the website and when you reach step 6, paste the string of text that you copied earlier.<br />
13. Keep following the on-screen instructions to get an unlock key delivered to your email.<br />
14. Copy the unlock key that you received on your email.<br />
15. Type in the following command in the Command Prompt window and replace KEY with the unlock key you received.<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
fastboot oem unlock KEY</blockquote>
16. Your bootloader should now be unlocked, and you should be ready for part two of this tutorial.<br />

<h2>
<span style="font-size: x-large;">Part II. Flashing a custom Recovery on Moto G</span></h2>
1. Head to <b>Settings</b> -> <b>About phone</b> and tap on <b>Build number</b> 7-8 times until it says you are a developer.<br />
2. Now go back to your Settings and just above <b>About phone</b> you should see <b>Developer options.</b><br />
3. Head to <b>Developer options</b> and turn on <b>USB Debugging.</b><br />
4. Connect your device to your computer using your USB cable.<br />
5. Move the <b>twrp-osprey-2.8.7-test1.img</b> file to the fastboot directory. <br />
6. Launch a Command Prompt window on your PC. You can do that by holding
 Shift and right-clicking anywhere on the fastboot folder and select "<b>Open command window 
here</b>".<br />
7. Type in the following command there and press Enter:<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
adb reboot bootloader</blockquote>
8. Once your device boots into bootloader mode, type in the following command on the Command Prompt:<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
fastboot flash recovery twrp-osprey-2.8.7-test1.img</blockquote>
9. Wait for it to flash TWRP recovery onto your device and when it's done, reboot by typing in the following command:<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
fastboot reboot</blockquote>
10. You should now have TWRP Recovery on your Moto G.<br />

<span style="font-size: x-large;">Part III. Rooting your Moto G</span></h2>
1. Connect your device to your computer using your USB cable.<br />
2. Copy the SuperSu zip file to your phone's internal storage.<br />
3. Launch a Command Prompt window on your PC. You can do that by holding
 Shift and right-clicking anywhere on the fastboot folder and select "<b>Open command window 
here</b>".<br />
4. Type in the following command there and press Enter:<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
adb reboot recovery</blockquote>
5. Your device should reboot into TWRP recovery. Tap on <b>Install</b>.<br />
6. Select the SuperSU .zip file you copied earlier.<br />
7. Tap on <b>Swipe to Confirm Flash</b> to confirm the flash process.<br />
8. When it's done flashing the SuperSu .zip file, reboot your device by tapping on <b>Reboot</b> followed by <b>System</b>.<br />
<br />
Your Moto G (3rd Gen) should now be rooted. You may flash custom ROMs, modifications, kernels and everything else.

The Galaxy J5 is a new mid-range addittion to Samsung's Galaxy J series which was released on June 2015.  The phones comes with a 5.0" Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 720x1280 (HD) powered by a Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU, 8/16GB RAM, 1.5GB RAM, 13MP rear camera and comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop pre-installed.<br />

This guide will show you how to succesfully root your Galaxy J5 which will allow you to use applications like Titanium Backup, Root Explorer, Xposed framework, etc.<br />

Do not worry if you do not get into the screen showed above, your phone might directly be ready for flashing. Now you need to run the Odin program from the package that you extracted.<br />
